Tanzania is a country of superlatives. It is famous for Mt. Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest mountain (19,034ft./6340m.) its snow-capped dome looming majestically over the surrounding country; the Serengeti plains, where over two million wild animals co-exist and which is the source of the spectacular annual migration of countless wildebeest.

The Ngrorongoro is one of nature’s splendid creations, a massive caldera crater which is a haven for many species of game, including the “Big Five”. Nearby, glinting in the Great Rift Valley lies Lake Manyara, with its tree-climbing lions and herds of cape buffalo.

 
THE COUNTRY

Tanzania lies South of Kenya and covers an area 939,704sq. kms including the Islands of Zanzibar, Mafia and Pemba.

It has a population of 15 million, and its main port and largest city is Dar-es-salaam.

Arusha (population 110,000), which is situated near Mt. Kilimanjaro is the gate-way to safari-country, with an international airport.

Serengeti - Serena Kirawira Camp

Serengeti - Grumeti River Camp
This splendid camp overlooks a tributary of the Grumeti River which drains into Lake Victoria. Alive with hippo and crocodiles, the river is lined by tall riverine tree, home to countless birds and troops of colobus monkeys.
Accommodation is provided in 10 tents with en-suite bathroom. The cream tents under thatch and the vibrancy of Kente cloth and African sculptured furnishings bring alive the romance of Africa. Gourmet meals are served in the central dinning area and adjacent bar.

Lake Manyara - Tree Camp Recommended for Nature Lovers
Perched on top of trees, accommodation is in ten secluded double tents - great romantic swirls of cream canvas, part Arabian harem, part American soft-serve; a dessert desert fantasy. Furnishings are strikingly simple - a wooden-framed mirror suspended by string from a tent-pole, a black Crompton Greaves fan beside the bed.
